Research paper: "Gruppe Monsun – The U-Boat operations in the Indian and Pacific Oceans during World War II" by Christian Keimer (a retired German Air Force Lieutenant Colonel). U-168 Allied Interrogation Report - This document (Allied Translator and Interpreter Section Report No. 676) covers the five prisoners captured after U-168 was torpedoed by a Dutch submarine off the coast of Java. Of interest , Section I.G. No. 3850 contains explicit notes detailing that the German prisoners "felt no patriotic responsibility towards Japan" and outlines deeply strained German-Japanese relations in Java. It also logs a severe summer 1944 cholera outbreak in "Old Batavia" (Jakarta) that crippled operations, as well as the complete reliance on local fuel stores at Penang and Batavia.
This article discusses a rare 1941 German nautical chart of the Singapore and Bangka straits, currently held in the National Library of Singapore. The map, produced by the Kreigsmarine, highlights the strategic importance of these waterways during World War II and provides insight into German military mapmaking and their historical presence in Southeast Asia.
